Specsavers Lifesaving Eye Exam
A teenager who worked at her local optician has every reason to be glad she went to work for Specsavers after colleagues spotted a dangerous swelling in her left eye. 19 year old Kirsty Willis from Staines had been feeling nauseous and dizzy, when she suddenly began to lose her vision prompting her colleagues to carry out a routine eye exam that has undoubtedly saved the teenager's life.
Optometerist Nayan Chavfa carried out an eye exam using a fundus camera and referred the teen to hospital after discovering that her left eye was severely swollen. Doctors, alerted to the swelling, were soon able to diagnose Kirsty with a rare disorder known as Papilloedema.
Experts believe that the condition, left untreated, could have become life threatening as the retinal swelling would have begun to raise pressure-levels to a dangerous high in the teen's skull.
