Life Saving Eye Exam
Putting off a routine visit to the opticians may now be a little harder, after it has emerged that a simple eye exam saved a woman from a potentially life threatening condition. Lisa Walmsley, from Southport, was directed to accident and emergency after her optician spotted a massive aneurysm on her brain that had been affecting her vision.
Lisa had visited her optician after experiencing blurred vision. Her optician carried out a routine eye exam when he noticed the four centimetre long aneurysm on her brain that was pressing on her optical nerves.
The optician encouraged Lisa to go to accident and emergency where medical professionals were able to confirm the severity of her condition and carry out lifesaving surgery. Lisa's optician Ian Marshall says that he hopes Lisa's case will encourage more people to stop putting off having a routine eye exam.
