Bad Eyesight Could Cause Learning Difficulties
Poor eyesight could cause learning difficulties, researchers claim. Scientists at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology believe that malfunctioning retinal cells could cause problems with motor skills, handwriting, counting and more.
Researchers believe that retinal cells that process movement, known as magno cells, could be responsible for causing multiple learning problems.
Scientists reached their conclusions by testing the eyesight of ten-year olds. Results showed that children whose eyes could better process their environment performed better in basic academic tests. The researchers recommend that children with multiple learning problems should be screened for defective magno retinal cells.
Experts believe that special learning tools could be developed that would be able to address these learning problems by helping patients to better process visual stimuli.
