Benefits of Lens Implants (ICL’s)
There are many benefits of lens implants and they are often the treatment of choice over laser eye surgery. Benefits of lens implants include:
- More severe cases of nearsightedness can be treated when compared with LASIK laser eye surgery. ICL is sometimes the only possible refractive surgery option available.
- Visual satisfaction and safety are high with this procedure.
- There is quick visual recovery and therefore you can return to routine life, quite quickly.
- ICL surgery is reversible. The lens can be removed for personal or clinical reasons and is not a permanent procedure like laser eye surgery.
- Compared with laser eye surgery, the eye itself is not altered. Tissue is not removed and the shape of the cornea is not changed.
- ICL surgery is highly flexible as the lens can be changed as your prescription changes over time.
- Glasses and contact lenses can still be worn to treat conditions, which ICL does not resolve such as age related presbyopia.
- ICL’s cannot be seen because they sit behind the iris. It is therefore not possible for others to be aware that you have had lens implant surgery.
- The lens will not interfere with other eye functioning apart from clarifying your vision, of course.
- The ICL can be left in the eye permanently unlike contact lenses, which must be removed daily.
- Those suffering from dry eye may be more suitable for lens implants compared with, LASIK surgery, which can exacerbate the problem.
- The lens should stay in place without any particular care required and therefore lens implants’ are highly convenient.
- The lens cannot be felt and therefore you will not be aware of its presence.
