Symptoms of Myopia
The refractive error known as myopia is also referred to as short sight, short sightedness or nearsightedness. Myopia is very common and makes it difficult to see distant objects as clear as near objects and causes vision to be blurred. If you have myopia, you may find it difficult to see road signs but you will not have any problems reading (unless you are also longsighted).
The degree of myopia varies from person to person. Some people are only mildly short sighted and therefore, may only wear contact lenses or glasses when they are driving. Other people may need to wear them all of the time. The degree of myopia is measured by eye care professionals in dioptres.
- Up to 3.0 dioptres - Mild degree of Myopia
- 3.0 to 6.0 dioptres - Moderate degree of Myopia
- 6.0 dioptres and over - High degree of Myopia
