Vision Loss Test for Home
The pioneering launch of the first home tester kit for vision lost has been launched in the UK which could spell a much needed turn around in the ever-growing worry of vision problem, age-related macular degeneration. The test involves a simple saliva sample, taken by the patient spitting into a tube and then sending it back to the lab for testing. The test is aimed at middle-aged people who are the most susceptible to this vision impairment.
This revolutionary new kit can be purchased by people online, but it does cost a whopping £399. However, putting it into perspective many people will value their eyesight at a much higher price than this, and the cost of glasses and vision correction treatments can far exceed this price anyway. Once the sample has been taken, it is then sent off to a lab where a fully-trained eye expert will examine the results. The lab test will look for six genes that are associated with a risk of the development of age-related macular degeneration. Once diagnosed, the patient will receive advice from the eye expert as to what can be done to slow down the progression of AMD with either drugs or vitamins.
With nearly half a million people in the UK alone suffering from this type of vision impairment, it is not hard to see that something has needed doing in order to combat the impairment. A characteristic of the disease means that it can often go unnoticed for a considerable period of time before the sufferer becomes aware of it but it can lead to them being unable to distinguish people’s faces. Unfortunately, once progressed age-related macular degeneration can in fact lead to permanent vision loss. Therefore, this home tester kit may be a worthwhile investment for those at a predominant risk of the disease.
