See clearly with clean blood
Yet again it appears another more simple solution to helping treat AMD (age-related macular degeneration) could have been discovered, this time with the process of cleaning blood – rheopherisis. Working a bit like kidney dialysis would, rheopherisis removes excess waste from the blood, such as; cholesterol, fibrinogen etc; all of which are compounds which can block and effect the body’s blood vessels. Once the blood has been passed through the filter and these waste compounds removed, studies have shown that some vision of the patient can be restored.
AMD affects so many people, both male and female and is the leading cause of loss of vision that cannot be cured. Primarily it affects the retina and leaves it unable to rid the eye of waste or take in much needed nutrients. This can be caused by a number of different health related issues; e.g. high cholesterol and smoking. The build-up of things within the blood vessels that supply the retina with it’s nutrients often mean that the vessels become weakened and can tear causing blood and fluids to leak out of the vessels.
As the build-up within the blood that causes the damage resulting in AMD stems from more controllable compounds that are found in the blood, then blood cleaning could provide an option for anyone who has an unnecessary build-up of things like cholesterol in their bloodstream. It should be noted that the true, central cause of AMD is still unknown and therefore rheopherisis may not work for each and every AMD sufferer. This is shown in the results from the recent German study as the disease only slowed in just fewer than 50% of the patients. However, every progression counts, and this news could provide the development of further cures and preventions for such devastating diseases like AMD. Equally, one must remember that AMD wasn’t long since thought an incurable disease full stop.
