Types of Lens Replacement (CLE)

Fixed Focus Implant

This type of lens implant is most often indicated if you are over 40 years of age.  Reading glasses would still be required with this type of surgery.  If you already suffer from cataract, then lens replacement may be a good option, as the natural lens may need to be replaced over time, anyway.

Multi Focus Implant

This type of lens implant known as PRELEX (Presbyopic Lens Exchange), can improve near and distant vision, thus it is suitable if you are both hyperopic and presbyopic.  Laser eye surgery such as LASIK, cannot correct impaired vision for near objects caused by presbyopia.  This problem is due to the inability of the natural lens to accommodate and reduced flexibility of the lens.  PRELEX replaces the natural lens with a multi-focal intra-ocular lens implant and therefore can eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses, completely.

Accommodative Lens Implant

This is a lens implant, which can artificially accommodate like the eyes natural lens instead of remaining rigid like other types of lens replacements.  The lens works naturally with your eyes muscles using hinges, which are designed to allow the lens to move and focus on objects at all distances.  Ask your eye surgeon about the suitability and availability of this type of advanced lens implant.
