Types of Wavefront Technology

Allegretto Wave laser from Wavelight AG is used by some of the leading laser eye surgery clinics in the UK.  It is advocated as the fastest type of laser eye surgery available.  Perfect Pulse technology is used to determine the precision and speed of Allegretto and is a highly refined procedure.  This procedure is also very safe as it measures and adjusts the energy level of each laser beam before it touches the eye.  This advanced superior technology tracks the eye during surgery so that if the patient looks away and moves the eye from the required position, the beam is cancelled until the correct position is re-found.  Similar tracking technologies include ActiveTrak 3-D.

Severe irregularities in the eye can be determined using an Allegro Topolyzer, which measures and generates extremely high-resolution data.  The Allegro Topolyzxer can also be used to identify Keratoconus.  A Pentacam camera system can be used to scan the anterior eye and create a 3D model of the eye to be analysed by the surgeon to check laser eye surgery suitability.

Some clinics use the Nidek OPD, which measures the progress of 1000’s of waves of light as they pass through different parts of the eye.

The various types of wavefront technology, help to tailor the laser eye surgery procedure to each individual. if you are considering LASIK surgery, find out about wavefront LASIK at your laser clinic.
