PARK
PARK - Photo-Astigmatic Refractive Keratectomy
Refractive Error Correction
- Myopia - Nearsightedness or short sightedness. This is corrected by flattening the front surface of the eye using a laser.
- Astigmatism - This is corrected by using a laser to reshape the steepest part of the cornea to make it more spherical.
This is a laser eye surgery procedure similar to PRK. The main difference is that tissue is removed from the cornea using an excimer laser to correct astigmatism, as well as shortsightedness. The ablation profile is usually specifically set for astigmatism. Optimum results are achieved if you are short sighted (myopic) with associated astigmatism, which does not exceed 1.5 dioptres. The procedure can also be carried for different prescriptions of myopia and astigmatism but results are not as successful. However, you may still be satisfied with the results.
Following PARK laser eye surgery, you may be required to wear an eye shield, or a bandage to protect the eye from particles in the air and from eye contact. A special contact lens may be worn for the first few days. To reduce the risk of infection, it is crucial that you take the prescribed antibiotics. Recovery can be quite painful compared with LASIK, and usually takes longer. Vision is impaired for the first few days, as the surface of the eye naturally heals. Follow up appointments are usually made a few days following the procedure and during the following months.
