Laser Eye Surgery for Myopia (Short Sight)

Also known as short sightedness, near sight and nearsightedness.  Myopia makes it difficult to see distant objects as clear as near objects.  Myopia is caused by the cornea being too steeply curved or the eye being longer than normal.

Depending on your prescription and eye conditions, shortsightedness can be corrected or improved by laser eye surgery.  The surgery is used to make the centre of the cornea flatter by removing more tissue from the centre than the edge.  Generally, laser eye surgery is only used to correct short sightedness up to -14D.

Having trouble seeing things which are far away is very common.  The further the distance the un-clearer the vision.  Myopia is often most problematic when driving.  In such circumstances it can also be very dangerous and there are legal vision requirements for driving without the aid of glasses or contact lenses.  Students may find it difficult to see the board at the front of a classroom or lecture theatre.  You may struggle watching films at the cinema.  Laser eye surgery can make a huge difference to near sightedness.  It is in fact, the most common refractive error, which is corrected by laser eye surgery procedures.
