Laser Eye Surgery for Hyperopia (Long Sight)

This is also known as farsightedness, far sight and long sight.  Hyperopia makes it difficult to see near objects as clear as distant objects.  Hyperopia is caused when the cornea is too flat or the eye is too short.

Depending on your prescription and eye conditions, long-sightedness can be corrected or improved by laser eye surgery.  The surgery is used to make the centre of the cornea more curved by removing more tissue from the edge using a controlled laser.  This is akin to a ring doughnut shape.  Generally, laser eye surgery is only used to correct long sightedness up to +6D.

Finding it difficult to see things that are close up is a very common problem.  Hyperopia can cause problems such as reading difficulty.  Hyperopia is the opposite problem to myopia and if you have this condition, you may find yourself squinting when trying to read things close up.  If you use a computer or enjoy needlework, you may have to wear glasses or contact lenses.  Everyday activities can be affected by reliance on glasses or contacts but laser eye surgery reduces or eliminates this dependency.
