Treatment Consent for Laser Eye Surgery

Before going ahead with laser eye surgery, you must be fully informed of the risks involved with the surgery and understand that you have the right not to proceed with the surgery at any time.  Most clinics require patients to sign a consent form.  The treatment consent form should be signed after careful consideration of the pros and cons of laser eye surgery and when you feel comfortable that all of your questions have been satisfactorily answered.  If there are any issues that are of concern or that you are confused about, you must ask the surgeon.  Talking to friends and family can help you make up your mind.

Laser eye surgery requires serious financial investment and the results can be life changing, so the right decision must be made.

If you decide to go ahead with the laser eye surgery, the surgeon will explain the procedure and how to prepare for surgery.  Most clinics will allow you to eat and drink normally on the day of the surgery, as only a local anaesthetic will be administered.  Comfortable loose clothing is recommended.  Makeup, creams, deodorants and perfumes should not be worn before laser eye surgery.
