Disclosing Personal Information
When applying for health insurance, it is crucial that you answer all of the questions asked by the insurance company accurately. This includes pre-existing illnesses and injuries. The insurer may write to your GP/doctor for more information. If you do not disclose information accurately, the insurance company may refuse to pay a claim or cancel your policy. If you are unsure whether to give certain information, it is better to do so, to be on the safe side. If you have pre-existing conditions, these may become eligible for medical insurance cover, once a waiting period has elapsed. This is known as ‘Moratorium.’ There are strict rules and regulations, which must be adhered to before a health insurance provider would consider any pre-existing conditions.
If you are disabled you can, take out health insurance. You may not be covered for treatment due to the disability but all other cover will be as it is with anyone else. All information provided to the health insurance provider is kept strictly private and your personal and medical details are not disclosed to anyone.
