Causes of Hyperopia

Hyperopia is caused when the cornea is too flat or the eye is too short.  The eyeball of a farsighted person is shorter than normal.  It is a common problem and some believe that it is inherited.  Although there is no general consensus regarding this, it is certainly true that you are more likely to suffer from hyperopia, if there is a family history of it.  If you are born hyperopic, the condition may lessen in adulthood as the eyeball lengthens with normal growth.
