Glaucoma Eye Drops Successfully Trialled

Eye drops that use new gene silencing techniques could be used to relieve intra-ocular eye pressure in patients with glaucoma after researchers have reported successfully trialling new drugs. Eye drops are commonly used to treat glaucoma - a potentially blinding eye condition that is thought to affect over 90 million people across the world.

The eye drops were used to successfully treat hypertension in people with open angle glaucoma by inhibiting genes linked to the condition. If approved, the eye drops would be the first in use that work by using the unique gene therapy.
