As you get older, your normal glasses may become unsuitable for reading
Your arms just aren't long enough to focus! Alternative reading glasses are one solution, but you can't see distant objects. Bi-focal lenses solve this problem. But notice 'mid-range' objects are still blurred. The 'progressive' lens is the best solution. Providing good all-round vision.

Like bifocals, varifocals are used for correcting presbyopia.  But unlike bifocals where there is an unattractive bifocal line across the lens, progressive or varifocal lenses gradually change from distance strength at the top of the glasses to reading strength at the.  Thus, vision is corrected at different powers depending on where you look through the lens, but there is not a distinct line.

Bi-focals are also not ideal for computer work which is mid-distance. We tend to look through the reading lens at the bottom and lean forward. We also have to look from side-to-side to see wide screen monitors. Vocational progressive lenses are designed to overcome these problems. We can improve our posture and avoid back, neck and head aches.
