Buying Glasses Online

Buying glasses online on the Internet

Prescription glasses can be bought online subject to you providing a valid prescription form and being over 16 years old.  Most online retailers sell single vision and bifocal lenses of a spherical power between +6.00 and - 6.00 (dioptres) and a cylindrical power between +2.00 and -2.00 (dioptres).  Alternatively, it is usually possible to purchase frames with perfect lenses and have the lens prescription changed by your local optician.

The benefits of buying online are that firstly, delivery can be very fast.  Delivery may even be faster than with your local optician, as online retailers may sell and deliver frames at a higher rate.  There is of course also increased choice online, with thousands of frames to choose from and hundreds of online retailers.  Frames can be browsed depending on face shape, skin tone and frame material.  The downside of course is that online frames cannot be worn and tested for comfort and appearance.  The Internet is highly convenient and more and more people are shopping online for their eyewear.

Buying glasses from your Optician

Prescription glasses can be bought from any optical retail outlet.  This has the benefit of being able to try frames on and make adjustments as required.  An optician can guide you through their selection and help you decide on your glasses.

When you buy glasses it is important to ensure that they meet the European Standards, for the control of medical devices.
