Special Glasses Stop Headaches

Special eye glasses could be used to significantly ease symptoms of headaches and dizziness in patients who had experienced traumatic brain injuries, researchers claim. A study published in the journal Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation suggests that people with traumatic brain injuries often overwork their eye muscles in order to correct symptoms including double vision and image misalignment. Experts explain that overworking the eyes in this way causes anxiety, dizziness, headaches and more.

Doctors found that patients who used prismatic eye glasses not only had improved vision, but were over 71% more likely to report that they suffered from anxiety, distress, dizziness, headaches and more. Furthermore, attending physicians found that using the eye glasses seemed to speed up the recovery of patients with traumatic brain injuries.

Traumatic brain injuries are thought to affect up to 20% of service men and women who are injured whilst on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, over 2 million people per year sustain similar traumatic head injuries through sports accidents, falls and more. Researchers hope that prismatic eye glasses can be used to better treat and to ease the pain of patients.
