Lenses can be coated with anti-reflective coating, which makes them look better and they also produce less glare.  Glare can be particularly problematic with driving at night or when working in front of a computer.  The reduced glare from coated lenses can make eyes less tired.  It is also believed that because more light passes through the lens, visual acuity can be improved.  The coating can virtually eliminate distracting reflections for you and for the person looking at you.  Further, anti-reflection coatings can make thick lenses look thinner and therefore improve the overall appearance of glasses.
