Suitability for Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)


Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is usually most suitable for healthy adult males and females who have realistic expectations from the procedure.  It is usually performed on individuals over the age of 35 years but can be an option for younger people particularly if they have certain hereditary conditions causing severe excess skin and droopiness.  Individuals with certain illnesses, medical or eye conditions may not be suitable candidates due to the likelihood of complications from the procedure.  These include:  

  • Thyroid problems such as Hypothyroidism or Grave’s disease
  • Hypertension or High Blood Pressure
  • Eye Disorders such as Glaucoma, Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (dry eye) & Retinal Detachment
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Ectropion
