Aftercare following Eye Bag removal with Blepharoplasty
Immediately after eye bag removal surgery it is important to rest and refrain from activities such as reading, playing video games or using a computer, watching television, and wearing contact lenses. Sunglasses are often recommended after surgery, to prevent irritation of the eyes due to wind, dust and light. It is recommended to replace supportive sterile tape as required for up to one week. Eyes should be cleaned with water or given eye drops/ointment
During the first few weeks following surgery it is advisable to rest the eyes by taking naps throughout the day, avoid crying and avoid activities which may increase the blood flow to the eye area such as bending over and strenuous activities including strenuous exercise. This advice will aid the healing process so that you can resume normal lifestyle quickly.
The dissolvable stitches disappear within two weeks and non-dissolvable stitches can be removed in a follow-up appointment, usually three to five days after surgery. Scars usually become almost invisible over the course of a few months. You may be able to read and watch TV within a few days after surgery and return to work between a week and 10 days after surgery. The full benefits of eye bag removal cannot be seen until up to six months following surgery but a difference will be noticed within a few weeks.
