UK Eye Firm Joins Important US Eye Study


Optos, a Dunfermline based manufacturer of optical scanning machines, has been selected to supply technology that will help American researchers at the American National Eye Institute to investigate age relate macular degeneration – a progressively blinding eye disease that is thought to be the leading cause of vision loss worldwide.

Researchers at the National Eye Institute will use the eye screening equipment to study the eyes of 4,200 patients with age related macular degeneration.

It is hoped that the study will lead to the development of better screening methods and the earlier detection and improved treatment of the blinding eye condition.
