New Vision-Loss Protein Treatment
A new protein treatment could be used to successfully treat age-related macular degeneration, according to drug manufacturer InNexus. The pharmaceutical giant claims that it has developed a non-invasive protein therapy that inhibits the growth of excess or abnormal blood vessels in the eye that can cause the blinding eye disease.
Age related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in elderly people, worldwide. The condition is thought to affect over 30 million people.
The eye condition is currently treated by using injections to deliver drug treatments directly into the eye. However, the new protein therapy could be administered using eye drops, manufacturers claim.
