New Retina Repairing Treatment Trialled
A recent clinical study has shown that microplasmin has been used to successfully treat a number of retinal disorders including vitreomacular adhesion and full thickness macular holes. ThromboGenics, a pharmaceutical company behind the new retinal repairing treatment, presented the progress of its advanced clinical trials at today's conference of the European Society of Retina Specialists.
Researchers claim that the substance is able to improve vision quality without the need for invasive surgery. Injecting a microplasmin solution directly into the eye seemed to result in vision improvement in patients with and without epiretinal membranes – or scar tissue that can develop across the retina and obscure vision/
The clinical trials also indicate that the retinal treatment seems to be well received by the body – and has caused no ill side effects in patients undergoing treatment.
