New Ocular Uveitis Drug Approved
A new drug that will treat ocular uveitis, or non allergic inflammation of the eye, will soon be available as manufacturer Allergan yesterday announced that the FDA has approved the new medication known as OZYRDEX.
Associated with serious eye diseases including age related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and more – uveitis causes the vascular layers in the eye's middle to become inflamed. Allergan estimates that posterior uveitis is thought to cause between 10-15 per cent cases of blindness in the US, per year – and is responsible for many more throughout the world.
Allergan's newly approved treatment, OZYRDEX, is a biodegradable implant that will release corticosteroid dexamethasone directly into the eye to reduce inflammation in affected tissue to lessen symptoms including blurring of the eyes and to improve vision.
