Eye Campaign Gains Celebrity Support

A campaign aiming to improve eye care treatment has gained some celebrity support as actress Alison Steadman has spoken out about her association with the initiative. Speaking to The Daily Mail the actress explains that she has been keen to champion initiatives that improve eye care treatment after contracting a painful virus that could have permanently impaired her vision.

Best known for her roles in popular dramas including Gavin and Stacey, Fat Friends and Pride and Prejudice, Steadman, 63, is patron of the Haringey Phoenix Group - a charitable group that aims to help blind and visually impaired people. However, Steadman is keen to use her celebrity status to draw attention to the Royal National Institute for the Blind's Losing Patients Campaign.

Losing Patients campaigns to make doctor's information leaflets, appointment letters and more addressed to people with vision problems available in easier-to-read large type or in braille. The actress explains that the campaign's work would help up to 1.8 million vulnerable people with vision problems to better access NHS information.
