Corneal Cross-linking Research Planned

A new research study is underway that aims to uncover whether corneal cross-linking procedures can help to ease the symptoms of progressive eye diseases including keratoconus and corneal ectasia. Both conditions, keratoconus and corneal ectasia, cause the cornea to thin, and result in impaired vision.

However, researchers at The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute now hope to investigate whether corneal cross linking can be used to improve vision quality in patients affected by either of the eye conditions.

Scientists plan to determine whether using ultraviolet light therapy combined with riboflavin or vitamin B, after laser eye surgery, will help to strengthen the cornea and improve vision, whilst also acting to stem the progression of either keratoconus or corneal ectasia.
