Computer Game Saves Eyesight
Six year old Ben Michaels may rightfully be the envy of his schoolboy counterparts after doctors prescribed daily doses of computer gaming to improve his failing vision. Experts suggested that the youngster play video games for two hours every day in a bid to strengthen his right eye which was badly affected by severe lazy eye syndrome.
Doctors suggested that Ben wear an eye patch over his 'good eye' whilst playing video games in that hope that his weaker eye would be strengthened by engaging in games that stimulated repetitive eye movements. Before undergoing the unorthodox therapy Ben was unable to focus on or identify people's faces. However, following daily doses of Nintendo's Mario Kart the youngster can now read, unaided, using his weak eye.
Experts believe that the therapy is easy to administer as children are keen to follow the treatment and can enjoy the therapy and its health benefits. Doctors hope that thousands of children could benefit from using similar therapies.
