Exotic treatment for dry eye sufferers

With one in three of us suffering from dry-eyes at some point during our lives, a natural remedy could be just what we need, and this is what experts believe they may have found. With an ever-increasing world of technology our eyes are unfortunately starting to suffer – computer use and watching TV are thought to be just some of the triggering factors for dry-eye disease. This new seed extract could provide the answer in keeping our eyes moisturized, hydrated, thus preventing any damage from progressing.

The clinical trial has been conducted on Rohto Dry Eye Relief which uses a seed extract from the exotic fruit of tamarind. The natural chemicals within this extract (tamarind seed polysaccharide) are combined with hyaluronic acid and together they can help protect the tear film of the eye. The tamarind seed contains proteins which are similar to the ones that are usually present on the eye whilst the hyaluronic acid reduces any fluid lost from the eye. Hyaluronic acid has been used on its own previously, yet in this recent combination of the two, the clinical trial revealed that it was over five times more successful than the sole acid use. The trial was conducted on 22 patients who suffer from dry-eye syndrome and were found to have their eye conditions improved by over 50%. Additionally, Rohto Dry Eye Relief is also thought to stick to the surface of the eye for a longer duration.

With dry-eye syndrome affecting so many people, it is a concern that many go untreated which can only lead to the condition progressively worsening. However, with this new treatment which is available from 26th December 2009, the maintenance and improvement of dry-eyes has never been simpler. Surely there won’t be a dry-eye left in the house!
