Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses follow the shape of the eye and are more flexible when compared with gas permeable contact lenses. Wearers often find them more comfortable and they can be easier to adapt to, than gas permeable lenses. If you are keen on particular sports and involved in a lot of physical activity, these lenses may be preferred, as they tend to stay in place more than their counterparts.
Advantages of Soft Contact Lenses over Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
- Flexible
- Comfortable
- Available in short and long term wear use
- Easier to adjust to
- Less likely to move out of position
Disadvantages of Soft Contact Lenses over Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
- Less durable
- Need to be replaced frequently
- Not suitable for all types of vision problems
Hybrid Contact Lenses
Hybrid contact lenses combine the features of gas permeable and soft lenses. These have a gas permeable centre and a soft outer ring, and are ideal for people with astigmatism, keratoconus and presbyopia. These lenses are comfortable and can be used for a variety of vision problems. Many people prefer hybrid contact lenses over soft contact lenses.
