Improve Eyesight with Regular Contact Lens Changes

According to ophthalmologist, Dr. Scarborough’s latest article in the Woodinville Weekly, patients who wear contact lenses should be changing them regularly to help keep their eyes healthy. Many contact lens wearers will suffer some kind of irritation at some point, and Dr. Scarborough emphasises that there is no reason why the user should stop wearing contact lenses so long as they take the necessary steps.

Unfortunately, allergy sufferers are probably going to be the biggest victims with their contact lenses; as trapped dirt, pollen and so on can lead to allergic reactions within the eye causing them to have itchy, swollen and red eyes. Hay fever sufferers that wear contact lenses should be particularly careful during the warmer summer months as pollen is easily harboured within contact lenses. Pollen alone isn’t the only culprit as everyday dirt can become accumulated on the contact lenses, often aggravating people’s allergic reactions. If you do suffer from this kind of reaction to your contact lens, or have often wondered why your eyes become itchy and uncomfortable every so often, then you should be removing your contact lens as soon as you get these symptoms. Dr. Scarborough suggests that by removing the contact lens for a couple of days post-reaction, this in itself is normally enough to alleviate the symptoms and allow you to begin wearing the contact lenses again. Having a spare pair of glasses on standby should this happen will also allow you to remove your contact lenses immediately.

For hay fever or other allergy sufferers, he advises the use of daily contact lenses in many cases as it is the build up of dirt that will significantly increase the chance of an allergic reaction. By having one-use contact lenses it should allow the allergy sufferer to continue wearing contact lenses throughout the worst months, including summer. Dr. Scarborough stresses that allergic reactions of this kind are rarely a threat to people’s eyesight; but people should be taking the necessary precautions, particularly if they are allergy sufferers.
