Experts Warn Against Fashion Lenses
Experts at the American Academy of Ophthalmology have expressed their concern that fashion lenses could be harmful. Eye care specialists worry that fashion lenses could cause a range of eye problems as they will not have been fitted by qualified eye care professionals.
Ophthalmologists explain that ill-fitted lenses could damage and irritate the cornea and lead to potentially blinding eye infections.
The Academy have issued a formal warning that advises people view lenses as a medical device and to reconsider using lenses that are not needed to improve vision quality. The experts also recommend that all contact lenses should be fitted by an optician and that patients should consult eye care specialists if their eyes become irritated or sensitive after wearing prescribed or fashion lenses.
