VocalEyes - Describing the Arts
VocalEyes is a nationwide audio description company providing access to the arts for blind and partially sighted people, through both live and recorded audio description.
Audio description is about enjoying a good quality art experience and being able to share it with friends and family, something which others take for granted.
Audio Describe
- Performances of drama, opera, dance, circus – the service includes pre-show introductory notes, touch tours of the set and stage, and the live audio described performance.
- Exhibitions at galleries and museums - live and recorded
- Architecture - live tours supported with introductory notes
Audio Description Training
Training is offered in theatre, but also people at museums, galleries and heritage sites, to empower them to take a blind or partially sighted person around their venue or exhibition confidently, using the appropriate language and terminology.
In words from one of our regular patron’s who comes to many audio described performances about what audio description means to her she says:
“Audio description at the theatre is like an oasis in a desert, as when I lost my sight I thought theatre would be barred for me forever but now I have found audio description, theatre has come back to life for me.”
