Is it possible to Control or Prevent Cataract?

Is it possible to prevent cataractCataract effects a lot of people with age.  From around 45 years of age, many people begin to suffer from presbyopia.  This is a refractive condition, which makes reading and close up work difficult without the aid of glasses or contact lenses.  People with cataract who already wear glasses or contact lenses, should make sure that they are have an accurate prescription with their glasses or/and contact lenses.  Regular eye exams are therefore essential, particularly since vision is less likely to be stable, as we get older.

There is no general consensus amongst eye researchers and experts as to whether cataract can be controlled or prevented.  Regular eye examinations are key to early detection and are particularly important for people over the age of 65 years, when the risk of developing cataract is quite high.  It is generally agreed that cataract cannot be prevented but steps can be taken to help slow down development.  Click here, to read about cataract progression and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
