Orbital Pseudo Tumour
The eyeball sits inside a bony cavity known as the orbit. Orbital pseudotumor occurs when the orbital tissues behind the eye swell. There are various types of Orbital Pseudotumour including Idiopathic orbital inflammatory syndrome (IOIS) in which the eyes hurt when moved and there is a reduction in vision and the eyelids may swell or become red. The condition is examined with an Ultrasound, a skull x-ray and a biopsy. If the condition requires treatment, often corticosteroids are prescribed. Surgical intervention may be required if there is a lot of pressure on the eye. If Orbital Pseudotumour causes the eye to budge forwards it can become dry and lead to dry eye syndrome. Double vision may also be experienced if the eye muscles cannot control eye movement effectively due to a bulging eye.
