Myopic
I person who is myopic suffers from myopia, also known as short sight or near sightedness. Myopia is a refractive eye condition which may be hereditary and affects nearly a quarter of the population. Myopic patients are able to see objects that are close up but struggle with distant vision. The condition occurs when the eye is too long so that images are not focused properly on the back of the eye on the retina.
Myopics can be treated in a number of ways including glasses, contact lenses and with implantable contact lenses and laser eye surgery. The elongated eyeball causes blurred vision and laser eye surgery works by changing the shape of the cornea so that light bends in such a way that it focuses properly at the back of the eye, on the retina.
Myopia in myopics may be mild, moderate or high.
