Mixed Blepharitis

Blepharitis is fairly common eye condition. There are mainly two types of blepharitis and sometimes you can suffer from both of them at the same time. This is known as “mixed blepharitis.” The two types of blepharitis, which may be present are called seborrhea and staphylococcal.

With seborrheic blepharitis, you may suffer from a flaky scalp (dandruff) acne prone skin and flaky eyelashes. Eyes can also appear bloodshot. The condition occurs due to a problematic gland in the eyelid and the skin. You may feel like scratching your eyes as they may itch or it may feel like there is something in them. An eye discharge may appear and sometimes it may feel like the eye is burning. Staphylococcal blepharitis is more common in children where as seborrheic blepharitis is more common in adulthood. Staphylococcal blepharitis causes eyes to become inflamed and harmful toxins can be produced. Symptoms include, eyelid crusting and scaling, eyelash loss and eye redness. An obvious sign of this condition is the whitening of eyelashes. This is a very serious eye condition, which must be treated effectively and efficiently as it can lead to corneal and conjunctival scarring.
