Macrostriae
With laser eye surgery, like all types of surgical procedures, there are a number of possible potential complications. LASIK eye surgery is a commonly performed refractive procedure, carried out globally. It involves cutting a tiny flap on the front of the surface of the cornea and folding it back. It is left hinged on the cornea and is replaced after the laser has modified the eye. One complication of this technique, is that small folds or wrinkles can develop on the flap when it is placed back on the cornea and this can cause loss of sharpness of vision. Although the cornea may appear not to be creased, if the epithelium is removed and Bowman's layer is exposed, the creases can be seen.
To resolve this problem, the flap may be lifted and irrigated the stretched and then replaced.
