IntraLASIK
This is a LASIK laser eye surgery procedure where the flap on the cornea is cut with a femtosecond laser instead of a blade as in other types of LASIK treatments. This has the obvious advantage of being more accurate than a hand held blade as the cutting of the flap is controlled by a computer which has been programmed to the individuals exact specifications. Often a thinner flap is cut. It is also a safer procedure, as there is reduced risk for error. Further still, results show that there is less likelihood that an enhanced laser procedure will be required, to improve the results of the initial procedure.
Risks involved with this treatment option include TLS, which stands for ‘Transient Light Sensitivity’ syndrome. Symptoms occur 2 to 6 weeks after surgery and are essentially, sensitivity to light. This photophobia may be mild-severe and can be treated with steroids.
