Hyperopia
Also known as hypermetropia, longsighted and farsighted, this is the inability to see near objects as clearly as distant objects and is indicated by a plus sign on an eye prescription. This refractive error is caused by a short eyeball, which causes light entering the eye to focus incorrectly on the retina, at the back of the eye. The information sent to the brain, via the optic nerve is therefore inaccurate and near objects become blurred.
Hyperopia can be corrected with laser eye surgery but results are not as effective as with myopia (near sightedness). Surgery is used to make the cornea steeper by lasering the peripheral part of the cornea.
