Flying Spot

A technique involved in laser eye surgery for applying excimer laser energy to shape the cornea and improve vision. Tiny spots of the ablation zone are treated at one time instead of a broad beam across large areas of the cornea. The beams do not overlap and are controlled by the laser's computer. Eye tracking technology may be incorporated into the procedure so that eye movement can be managed and to ensure that the specified parts of the cornea are selected and treated. Flying Spot lasers are typically used in laser eye surgery for people with varying degrees of nearsightedness, farsightedness and Astigmatism.
