Fluorescein Angiography
A diagnostic test, which shows the condition of the back of the eye. Before the test, vision is checked by dilation of the pupil using eye drops. Once eyes have become dilated you are taken to a photography room where a needle is placed in your arm and fluorescien is injected into the bloodstream. The dye travels around the body and circulates rapidly and can be seen in the eye within seconds. Photographs are then taken of both eyes.
Before testing, you should take medication, and eat and drink as normal. You are able to go home after the test and the whole procedure takes about 30 minutes. Results from testing are usually available after two weeks and you are advised accordingly on the best course of action, if any.
