Cranial Nerve Palsy
Palsy (full or partial paralysis) of the cranial nerves in the eye, can cause difficulty in eye movement. Eyes may not point in the same direction, or there may be a reduction in depth perception. Some people experience double vision, ptosis and vision loss. The pupil may become dilated and unresponsive to light. This damage may be caused by trauma to the head, diabetes, tumours etc. If there is damage to the seventh cranial nerve (see Bell's palsy) it may be difficult to close eyes, there may be infrequent blinking, excessive eye tearing, dry eyes, blurred vision and eye burning.
