CMV Retinitis


This is an Aids related infection, which is caused by the cytomegalovirus. Sight can be significantly effected with CMV Retinitis and symptoms include; unclear vision, floating spots, flashing lights and blind spots. Even if these symptoms do not exist, eye damage may still occur and therefore regular eye exams are essential if you have AIDS. CMV infection can be treated with the drugs, Ganciclovir and Foscarnet which slow the down the disease progression. HIV cannot be passed on through tears but can be found in them.
