Batten Disease


An inherited disease, which is often initially recognised by a loss of vision. It is a terminal disease where the brain deteriorates inevitably leads to early death. The disease is associated with the build up of lipopigments in body tissues such as the eye, which damage nerve cells.

There is no specific treatment for this disease although symptoms can be controlled.
