Anophthalmos


A condition where an eye does not develop properly during pregnancy and a baby is born with an eye missing.  Alternatively an eye can be lost at anytime in life due to trauma, infection or disease.  Enucleation may be performed to remove a damaged eye and replace it with a prosthetic implant into the eye socket.  The implant may be made of hydroxyapatite, glass or silicone.
