Accommodation

The automatic adjustment in focal length of the natural lens of the eye in order to see objects clearly.  When near objects are brought into focus, the lens becomes thicker in the middle, which increases its power.  The eye changes its focus from distant objects to near objects by accommodation.  Reading glasses may be required after the age of 45 as the lens becomes rigid and fails to accommodate effectively.  Symptoms of accomodative problems include; blurred vision, double vision, strained eyes, headaches, eye fatigue and difficulty in concentrating.  Presbyopia is an accommodation disorder.
