Symptoms of Achromatopsia
Achromatopsia is usually first noticed about half a year after birth, when a child who suffers from the condition would be photophobic (scared of the light). In some cases irregular eye movements called nystagmus can be associated with the condition, however this is not always the case. As the child develops, so do their eyes and their vision may start to become better until around 4-5 years of age. At this point their vision will usually be as good as it will ever be. Generally speaking, the symptoms for complete achromatopsia include an inability to distinguish colours as well as eye pain in areas where there is a lot of light. These symptoms can vary in people who have the less severe incomplete achromatopsia, who in some cases can still see some colours in situations where the light is bright.
